Kevin Vickerson vowed to come back stronger than ever in his return from a hip injury.

And the former Michigan State defensive tackle began that process Saturday when he made his long awaited return to the field in the Denver Broncos’ loss to the Houston Texans on Saturday.

Vickerson, a Detroit native, started all 11 games he played in last season before being sidelined last November with a hip injury that led to him missing the Broncos’ run to the AFC title and the Super Bowl.

He registered one tackle in his first game back Saturday.

Here’s updates on other former Spartans following Week 3 preseason contests.

Edwin Baker, Cleveland – He’s in the battle for the No. 3 running back spot for the Browns, but didn’t play in a 33-14 preseason loss to St. Louis.

Le’Veon Bell, Pittsburgh – A day after an arrest for marijuana, the Steelers running back had nine carries for 23 yards and a reception for three yards in a 31-21 loss to Philadelphia

B.J. Cunningham, Philadelphia – The receiver was one of 14 cut by the Eagles this weekend.

Kirk Cousins, Washington - The third-year quarterback completed 14 of 20 passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns for the Redskins in their 23-17 loss to Baltimore.

Kellen Davis, New York Giants - The veteran tight end started for the Giants but didn’t have a reception in Friday’s 35-24 win over the New York Jets.

Darqueze Dennard, Cincinnati - The rookie cornerback didn’t play in a 19-13 win over Arizona because of a hip injury.

Brandon Fields, Miami - The veteran punter averaged 40.3 yards on his three punts and landed one inside the 20 in a 25-20 victory over Dallas.

Bennie Fowler, Denver – The rookie receiver had two catches for 19 yards in the Broncos’ 18-17 loss to Houston.

Will Gholston, Tampa Bay - The second-year defensive end didn’t play against the Bills on Saturday because of a shoulder injury.

Brian Hoyer, Cleveland - Hoyer, who was named the Browns’ starting quarterback last week, was 10 of 16 passing for 84 yards and a touchdown and interception in a 33-14 loss to St. Louis.

Keshawn Martin, Houston - The receiver had two catches for seven yards and one kick return for 21 yards against Denver
